A Little Bit About Us
Since 1854, James Publishing and Signs has been putting ink on paper.
The technology may have changed since our inception, but our reputation for honesty, integrity and commitment to customer service has not.
To meet the varied demands in the graphics industry, we have added the latest in wide format print and production equipment to our 7,000 square foot facility. Our staff is able to produce outstanding, high quality projects from concept to completion.
We regularly facilitate projects for the commercial, private and military sectors providing the highest level of customer service, technical knowledge and innovation strategies for capturing new opportunities.
1854
The Messenger newspaper is purchased by Rev. John M. Climie and his son, W. R. Climie and is renamed The Canadian Statesman.
1878
The Canadian Statesman is purchased by Moses A. James
1919
Moses A. James takes two of his sons, Norman and George into partnership and the company becomes M. A. James & Sons.
1929
Norman James passes away at age 47 and his wife, Lena, becomes a silent partner.
1947
Norman’s son, John M. James becomes a partner with George W. James.
1957
John M. James becomes sole owner of the business and renames it James Publishing Company Limited.
1981
John M. James’ son, Rick, becomes a partner with his father.
1999
The Canadian Statesman newspaper is sold to Metroland Printing and Publishing to expand the digital services of James Printing.
1999
John M. James passes away and Rick becomes the sole owner of James Publishing Company Limited.
2009
James Publishing purchases several sign companies in the area to become James Printing and Signs.
2013
Rick’s daughter, Morgan, joins the business and becomes the 5th generation to manage the family business.
2019
James Printing and Signs moves from its original location on King Street West to Lake Road, allowing the company to expand its print and signage services again.

Get to Know the Team
Rick James
President
Rick started working for the family business at a very young age, taking his first photograph for “The Canadian Statesman” at age 9. He has worked in every aspect of the business as the fourth generation of the James Printing and Signs family. His focus has always been on honesty and integrity, delivering quality products at affordable prices. He originally thought he would be a professional golfer, but was missing one key part to get on the PGA Tour; he wasn’t good enough.
Morgan James
Business Manager
Morgan is the fifth generation of the James Printing and Signs family. She graduated with Honours from Queen’s University in 2013 and began working for the family business shortly afterwards. She is involved with everything from estimating to aerial signage installation. She loves German Shepherds and has an irrational fear of spiders.
Constance Mallon
Senior Graphic Designer
Constance graduated with a diploma in Graphic Design from Durham College in 2008 & also holds a diploma from George Brown College in Fine Arts. She started her career with Forsey Signs, eventually becoming part of the James Printing & Signs team as a Senior Graphic Designer. Her passion still remains with large format sign printing from vehicle wraps to billboards & bridges. Constance is a plant enthusiast & loves to draw when she isn’t cuddling with her four cats.
Michelle Wilcox
Senior Graphic Designer
Michelle completed her post secondary education at Loyalist College in 2012. After graduating with an Advertising and Design Diploma, she began her career immediately and has acquired over 10 years experience in the industry. As a Senior Designer, she believes in keeping things fresh and fun while also staying on trend. She has comprehensive knowledge in both large and small scale print and sign projects, from publications to vehicle wraps. Michelle has an affinity for anything wedding related and would love nothing more than to bring your vision to reality. When she’s not working, you will find her keeping her husband busy “assisting” in all her Pinterest DIY’s, creating delicious meals that her son refuses to eat, and spending time outdoors when the weather is jusssst right.
Maisie Mulder
Graphic Designer
Maisie graduated from St. Lawrence College in 2017 with an Advertising and Marketing Diploma and then graduated from St. Lawrence College again in 2021 with a Graphic Design Diploma. After graduating, she secured a job right away with James Printing and Signs and has loved it ever since. She really enjoys helping customers and making their vision come to life. When she is not designing all day, she is drawing all night, working on her art for future art shows that she does in her spare time. Maisie is also interested in reading, gaming, gardening and cuddling with her dog, Odin.
Katlyn Beck
Graphic Designer
A graphic designer that started as an intern with N. Design at the beginning of 2018 and was hired by N. Design at the completion of her internship for 5 years. Katlyn is a graduate of the Durham College Graphic Design Program and was awarded the Visual Art Diploma O’Neill CVI special arts program. She’s a proud Dog Mom to a beautiful Border Collie named Lucifer. She loves Drawing, Video Games, Board Games, Dungeons & Dragons, Watching Anime, Reading, & Watching Horror Movies.
